A housing project to convert the old St. Vincent’s High School into an apartment building is making even more headway with Common Council giving its official stamp of approval to the rezoning of the Cliff Street property.
The plan is for the school, which has been vacant since the early 2000s, to house 34 apartment units with 15 of those being provincially designated Affordable Housing units and the rest will be regular market rental units.
A report delivered to council by the Planning Advisory Committee states that from staff’s position the development of the St. Vincent’s High School represents a positive contribution to the neighbourhood.
Peter MacKenzie of Comeau MacKenzie Architecture tells us they want to have the apartments available to rent by the Spring of 2017.
With the official approval of the rezoning by council at its meeting on Monday, the parcel of land goes from Major Community Facility to Urban Centre Residential.
