A two-storey house in a rural community about 40 kilometres east of Fredericton has been extensively damaged after a pre-dawn fire.

It happened on Thursday in New Zion at 4306 Highway 10 and three people, a couple and their adult daughter, managed to escape unhurt from the home.

The Canadian Red Cross have helped the family with the buying of clothes, foods and basics while emergency lodging was covered by insurance.
