Quick action by custodial staff at the St. Stephen Middle School in discovering a fire at the school on Wednesday.
St. Stephen Fire Chief Sean Morton says they got the fire call late in the afternoon, with the fire starting in the air handling unit on the roof.
He says they were on site for about 2 hours, and they didn’t need to use a lot of water to extinguish it, but some water did make it through the first and second floors of the building.
Chief Morton says damage was minimal, the water was mostly cleaned up last night, but there is quite a bit of smoke damage throughout most of the school.
As a result, there are no classes at the school today and the school will remain closed tomorrow as well.
There will be no school for St Stephen Middle School, December 07, due to a ventilation unit over heating.
