The Department of Fisheries and Oceans is looking at whether or not a full necropsy is needed, on the the latest North Atlantic right whale carcass found near Cape Cod this week.
At least 13 whales have been found dead.
Between 10 and 12 whales carcasses have been found in the Gulf of St. Lawrence since June. The latest were located in US waters.
Necropsies have been performed on several of the whales, with preliminary findings show that they were possibly hit by boats, or became entangled in fishing gear.
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans, recently implemented a new 10 knot speed limit for boats in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
There are only around 500 North Atlantic right whales left in the world.
