Inspiring Saint John area teenagers who are making a difference in their communities have been recognized for their good work.
10 young people have been given Teens Who Care Awards handed out by the Teen Resource Centre and the event is in its 9th year. Its executive director June Breau Nason says every year it's a different crop of intelligent youth giving back.
"They're willing to give back and they're willing to stand up and face causes that affect them and I think that's important that we honour these youth," says Breau Nason.
"We're not waiting for them to be leaders tomorrow, they're leaders today and I think we need to nurture that and recognize and acknowledge that."
The trends she noticed this year include raising awareness for mental health, bullying and poverty.
The awards event aims to put a spotlight on the great work of teens in the region, and by doing so, combat any negative stereotypes around teenagers.
