Grand Bay-Westfield managed to snag some highway funding from the provincial government amid fierce competition for the available dollars.
Mayor Grace Losier says the $277 thousand dollars will be spent on replacing half a dozen wooden culverts underneath Route 177 which have been there a long time. She says the road isn’t about to collapse but it’s always better to act before there’s a crisis.
The highway program has $25 million. Transportation Minister Bill Fraser reports the requests for funding he received from more than 100 municipalities exceeded $200 million.
