It’s not often you see a large group of motorcyclists, and all of them are women but you may see them during today’s Backroad Ball.
Co-Founder Heather D’Entremont-Macdonald says hundreds of women have come from Canada and the United States to take part in the all women’s motorcycle rally.
“Big Harley Baggers, Honda Goldwings to smaller Ninjas, sports bikes, racing bikes, dirt bikes, and as well we have so many different women show up,” says D’Entremont-Macdonald. “Women range from 19 to 60 plus.”
She says she grew to love motorcycles with her husband.
“Within a summer I was on my own, I started out with a Kawasaki Vulcan which is a little bit of a smaller bike, I was bitten by the bug basically, and especially once I found a couple other ladies here in Moncton that rode,” says D’Entremont-Macdonald. “And we started riding together, the feeling was even better.”
She adds some of the riders get particularly creative.
“Most women tend to just go with all protection, so leather and stuff like that, and there are a few pretty cool helmets, and women will typically bring those out and have them at our motorcycle game,” says D’Entremont-Macdonald. “And last year at our Saturday night party, we had some women who were wearing leather vests and tutus, and tiaras.”
They’ll be touring the province on designated routes and then they’ll gather in Penobsquis tonight for entertainment.
