The heated debate over Medavie taking over management of the Extramural programme is continuing in the Legislature. Opposition leader Blaine Higgs, who says he would cancel the deal, wonders about how soft the targets for Medavie will be.
Premier Brian Gallant says the targets are by no means soft including a 15 per cent increase in extramural visits and 15 per cent decrease in visits to the E-R by extramural patients. Gallant also charges Higgs knows very well what the key indicators are but admits the consequences of not hitting the targets are still being negotiated.
Gallant also points out it was the Conservative Government under then Premier David Alward who gave Medavie Blue Cross the New Brunswick Drug programme without inviting tenders.
