In an effort to minimize the risk to public health, the provincial government has unveiled new water quality advisories for Parlee Beach as the park opens for the season this weekend.
Following federal guidelines, the new protocol features clear signage at the beach stating water quality along with increased water monitoring and sample collection with the results posted online.
Public health will also receive and interpret the results and audit the signage and advisories.
Acting chief medical officer of health Dr. Jennifer Russell says the new protocol will clearly inform residents and visitors of any potential risk.
Murray Beach will also be monitored for water quality in the coming days and protocols will be considered for other provincial parks with public swimming areas.
